How to interpret ETF flows
A positive net flow means the fund group created more shares than it redeemed, implying net new capital entered the products. A negative flow means redemptions exceeded creations. Flows can reflect long-term allocation, short-term trading, hedging or arbitrage; they are not a direct measure of retail demand and do not guarantee that bitcoin’s price will move in the same direction. Read our Bitcoin ETF flows explainer for worked examples, reporting gaps and rolling totals.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Bitcoin ETF flow?
It is an estimate of net money entering or leaving an ETF through share creations and redemptions during a trading session, expressed here in U.S. dollars.
Are ETF flows the same as trading volume?
No. Trading volume counts shares exchanged between buyers and sellers. Net flow estimates whether the ETF itself created or redeemed shares, changing the capital represented by the fund.
Why do different websites report slightly different totals?
Providers can update at different times, treat preliminary issuer data differently or revise estimates after final share counts arrive. This page identifies its source and latest completed date so comparisons are reproducible.
Which Bitcoin ETF is best?
Flow leadership alone does not determine the best fund. Compare expense ratios, liquidity, custody, tracking and account availability in our Best Bitcoin ETFs in 2026 guide.
Data checks and corrections
We check reporting dates, fund coverage and totals before accepting an update. Provider estimates may be revised. See our sources and methodology below, or report a discrepancy.Sources, methodology and update timing
Final daily fund-flow records come from Farside and are accepted only when all 12 expected funds are resolved, the fund-level sum reconciles with the reported total and validation passes. When no newer final session is available, current-day preliminary data comes from the official SoSoValue API; if it has no usable current session, the tracker may use a clearly marked preliminary estimate from Xoomar Pulse. Xoomar estimates flow from the change in ETF holdings multiplied by a reference price, so its methodology is not identical to Farside’s final reporting. Reported fund values appear immediately; missing or unreported fund values remain Pending and are never converted to zero. If a refresh fails, the most recent validated complete final session remains available as the last-known-good record. Seven- and 30-session totals and streaks use final sessions only. Responses are cached centrally: preliminary or pending sessions retry no more than hourly, accepted final sessions may remain cached for 24 hours, and ordinary visitor page loads do not call data providers directly.
