Buy the Trezor Safe 5 if "don't trust, verify" is why you're in Bitcoin — fully open source, a better screen, and no seed-extraction feature to opt out of. Buy the Ledger Nano X if you'll actually manage your coins from your phone — Bluetooth plus Ledger Live is still the smoothest mobile experience in the category. Both are safe choices for a first wallet; the difference is philosophy, not security failures we could find.

Common questions

What's the deal with Ledger Recover?

An optional paid service that splits an encrypted copy of your seed across custodians. It's opt-in and off by default, but its existence bothered many users because it proved firmware can touch the seed. Trezor has no equivalent feature — a philosophical win for some buyers.

Is Bluetooth a security risk?

Keys never leave the device over Bluetooth — it carries only signed transactions. The paranoid can disable it and use the cable; the truly paranoid are reading our Coldcard comparison instead.
