MoonPay Review (2026): The Fiat On-Ramp Behind the Scenes
OUR VERDICT
ON-RAMP INFRASTRUCTURE
★★★★☆3.7/5
You'll rarely visit MoonPay directly — it's the fiat on-ramp powering the "buy crypto" button inside dozens of wallets, NFT marketplaces, and dapps, including several bitcoin wallets on our own wallet rankings. Convenient when it's already built in, but fees run noticeably higher than opening a dedicated exchange account.
WHAT WE LIKED
+Widely embedded — no separate app needed if a wallet already supports it
+Supports credit/debit card and Apple Pay in most regions
+Fast KYC, usually completed in minutes for a first-time buy
WHAT WE DIDN'T
−Fees run 4–5%, meaningfully above any dedicated exchange
−Not a place to hold funds — it's a one-time on-ramp, not an account
What you'll actually pay
Verified July 2026. Fees vary by the host app, region, and payment method — always check the quoted total before confirming.
Where you've probably already seen it
MoonPay's "buy" button appears inside many self-custody wallets — it's the fastest way to fund a wallet like Coinbase Wallet or a hardware wallet's companion app without leaving that app. The tradeoff for that convenience is a card fee well above what a dedicated exchange charges.
Use it if…
You need to fund a self-custody wallet directly, in one step, without a separate exchange account.
Skip it if…
You're buying more than a small amount — a dedicated exchange plus a manual withdrawal costs much less.
Common questions
Is MoonPay a wallet I can hold bitcoin in?
No — MoonPay is a payment on-ramp. It routes your purchase directly to the wallet or exchange you're funding.
