OUR VERDICT
Pick Coldcard if you only hold bitcoin and want the most isolated signing setup available. Pick Ledger Flex if you hold other assets too and want a friendlier touchscreen experience — accepting a closed secure element as the tradeoff.
Common questions
Is air-gapped actually more secure?
It removes an entire attack surface — no USB or Bluetooth means no remote exploit vector during signing. It's a meaningful security upgrade for large holdings, though overkill for very small amounts.
Can Coldcard hold anything besides bitcoin?
No — it's bitcoin-only by design. That's the whole point: fewer supported chains means a smaller, more auditable codebase.
